2. Objectives

The objectives for which the Society is established are as follows:

 2.1

To foster the discovery, development, processing and marketing of minerals and other geological natural resources, coal and peat of Ireland.

 2.2

To unite and to encourage communications between persons, companies, and firms involved in, and associated with, the discovery, development, processing and marketing of the minerals and other geological natural resources of Ireland.

 2.3

To promote, safeguard and represent the best interests of the natural resources and extractive industries in Ireland.

 2.4

To act as a representative and voice for the natural resources and extractive industries in matters relative to or affecting these industries in Ireland.

 2.5

To maintain contact with the appropriate Government Departments and to discuss with them matters relative to, or affecting, the natural resources and extractive industries of Ireland.

 2.6

To examine parliamentary Bills, standing orders and other orders, orders in Council, regulations, local bye-laws, Town Planning resolutions and decisions, county development plans, EU Directives, natural heritage area regulations, special amenity areas, environmental impact assessments and orders, and other resolutions or legislation affecting the interests of the Society and its membership, and to take appropriate action thereon.

2.7

To exercise, carry out, and perform such powers and duties as may, from time to time, be entrusted to, conferred or imposed on the Society by any governmental or local authority.

 2.8

To establish contact and to co-operate fully with other organisations connected with or interested in the natural resources and extractive industries of Ireland.

 2.9

To encourage and assist scientific and technological research and education in connection with the natural resources and extractive industries of Ireland.

 2.10

To encourage fellowship amongst the Members of the Society, and to promote, maintain and further the co- operation of the Members of the Society for their mutual benefit.

 2.11

To maintain a high standard of conduct, to combat unfair practices, and to encourage efficiency in the natural resources and extractive industries of Ireland.

 2.12

To subscribe to and promote the Code of Environmental Practice as stated hereunder.
