6. Election of Officers

 6.1

The President for the following term shall be elected by the Members at the Annual General Meeting of the Society, and shall be an (Ordinary) Member or Fellow of the Society. Nominations for President shall require the signature of eight (Ordinary) Members or Fellows of the Society and the assent of the nominee. If the outgoing President is not a candidate for presidency, the Council's nominee for presidency shall be the outgoing Vice President, if the latter assents to the nomination. Otherwise, the Council may nominate another candidate for the presidency. The Council's nominee shall be so identified on the ballot paper. The term of office for the President shall commence at the end of the Annual General Meeting at which the President is elected, and the term of office shall be one year. A Member may not be elected President for more than two consecutive years.
 6.2
The Vice President for the following term shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting and shall be an (Ordinary) Member or Fellow of the Society. Nominations for Vice President shall require the signature of eight (Ordinary) Members or Fellows of the Society and the assent of the nominee. The Council may nominate a candidate for the Vice President. The nominee shall be so identified on the ballot paper.
 6.3
Any two (Ordinary) Members or Fellows may nominate in writing a list of not more than eight (Ordinary) Members or Fellows as candidates for election as Councillors. Such lists should be signed by two nominating (Ordinary) Members or Fellows and sent to the Secretary not less than four weeks prior to the Annual General Meeting. The list shall be on the prescribed proposal form, which shall be made available on application to the Secretary. Nominations shall require the assent of the nominees.
 6.4
Outgoing Councillors who, without adequate explanation, have failed to attend 50% of the Council meetings during their year of office, will not be eligible for re-election.
 6.5
The Council will prepare ballot papers on the prescribed form to include all nominations thus received. When appropriate, a nominee for the position of elected Councillor will be identified as representing the criteria mentioned in Section 5.3 above. This ballot paper will be submitted to (Ordinary) Members and Fellows for the election of President, Vice President, and Councillors. The completed ballot paper must reach the Secretary not later than noon, the day before the Annual General Meeting. The Council shall appoint scrutineers who will report to the Annual General Meeting the results of the election.
