Manus Tiernan Msc., C.Eng., MIMMM., MICT. |
Inspector
(Mines & Quarries) Health & Safety
Authority |
|
I have
been employed in the extractive
industry since graduating from
AIT
with a Diploma in Mineral Engineering
over 18 years ago. I
started my working career as
a Rock Mechanics Technician
at Tara Mines in Navan. Over
time I became Senior Geotechnical
Technician and Ground Control
Engineer with responsibility
for ground support systems.
During this period I obtained
the Professional Qualifications
in Mining and Geotechnics through
the Engineering Council, the
Dip in Advanced Concrete
Technology, and my Masters
in Civil, Structural and Environmental
Engineering from Trinity College
Dublin. |
| In July of
2002, I changed my career path
and became an Inspector in
the Mines and Quarries Section
of the Health and Safety Authority.
The detail to safety of my
previous roles ensured that
the transition to an inspector
was made easier.
My present
duties are wide and varied
and include inspections of
Mines and Quarries in relation
to health and safety legislation,
investigation of accidents
and complaints, providing advice
on safety to the extractive
industry, representing the
Authority at national and international
meetings, lecturing on occupational
health and safety, and drafting
legislation and guidance for
the extractive industry. At
present I am completing my
Diploma in Safety Health and
Welfare at Work from U.C.D. |
