Careers and Training
Minerals Surveyor - Peter Kinghan B.Sc., Dip.Env.Eng.,Cert.GIS, MRICS, ASCS, MIS, MIQ

Chartered Minerals Surveyor - SLR Consulting Ireland

After graduating from the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) with a Diploma in Geo-Surveying in 2000 I started work as a Land Surveyor in Dublin. My work involved carrying out topographical surveys, building surveys and setting out of various engineering projects. After three years working as a land surveyor I went back to college to complete a degree in Minerals Surveying and Resource Management at the University of Glamorgan in Wales, subsequently I joined John Barnett and Associates in Dublin as a Minerals Surveyor.

Joining JBA offered me the opportunity to gain a further qualification as a Chartered Minerals Surveyor. In 2007 I was accepted by the Society of Chartered Surveyors as a member and took a one year leave of absence from JBA to work in Australia on a number of mining and construction related projects. I have also completed a number of other courses including environmental engineering and geographic information systems.

JBA was acquired by SLR Consulting in 2008. I am now an Associate of SLR where my areas of expertise include land and minerals surveying, minerals valuation, minerals planning, design and resource assessment, project management including preparation of Environmental Impact Statements for extraction developments and associated ancillary activities. I deal with planning and environmental issues relating to quarry developments on a daily basis, the work is both challenging and rewarding.
