Construction Plant Fitting Apprenticeship

Job Purpose
We are looking to appoint an Apprentice Construction Plant Fitter to join our existing team in our Portlaoise workshop. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, confident, and motivated with good communication and have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. You will be trained to undertake the fitting, repair, and servicing of various types of plant machinery, Light Vehicles and Small Plant and a variety of other disciplines. Our existing fitters have many years of valuable multi brand experience on various Items of Plant and fleet. We have the latest Diagnostic software and access to multiple brand training platforms; this will be an all bases covered apprenticeship for the plant industry and is a great opportunity for the right candidate in this busy and ever changing industry.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with heavy, plant machinery for the Mining & Construction Industry on a daily basis
  • Maintaining a tidy workshop
  • Involved in machinery diagnostics and problem solving
  • Using the special service tools, materials and equipment
  • Dismantling, examining and re-assembling mechanical systems and components
  • Testing electrical and electronic systems and components
  • Driving machines/vehicles
  • Reading and interpreting technical instructions and diagrams
  • A combination of on site & virtual training, carried out in the workshop on machine re-builds and Field Service work.
  • Learning and developing new craft-related skills, knowledge and competencies
  • Mechanical and Auto electrical disciplines will be covered
  • Attendance at college on day release/ completion of all assignments/study as required in order to achieve SOLAS qualification.
  • Global travel to various locations as and when required
  • Required to report and work closely with the Workshop & Technical Service Supervisor
  • Actively support and promote Sandvik’s EHS way of working, ensuring compliance at all times.
  • You will be required to contribute towards developing a strong Service team for our future business.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Provisional/Full clean Driving license
  • Some previous experience in the plant sector preferable.
  • You must have the ability to work in a busy environment.
  • You should display a high level of enthusiasm and self-motivation.
  • Have an excellent time and attendance record.
  • Ability to take direction.

Entry Requirements
The minimum age at which the employment of an apprentice may commence is 16 years of age.

The minimum educational requirements are:

  • Grade D in five subjects in the Department of Education & Skills Junior Certificate Examination or an approved equivalent,
    or
  • The successful completion of an approved Pre-Apprenticeship course
    or
  • Three years’ work experience gained over sixteen years of age in a relevant designated industrial activity as SOLAS shall deem acceptable
  • It should be noted that these are the current approved minimum educational requirements for apprenticeship programmes, however, previous experience of the following subjects would be an advantage but not essential: Mathematics, Technical Drawing/Graphics, Metalwork, Technology and Physics
