High-level Description An exciting opportunity to join Ireland’s leading independent manufacturer of concrete and bituminous construction materials. We are currently looking for an experienced senior Group Health & Safety Manager to lead the health and safety function across the group.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
•Proactively champion the health and safety function in line with the company’s targets and objectives to ensure a positive health and safety culture within the business.
•Lead and manage the Health & Safety Team.
•Lead the development and delivery of the group’s health and safety policy at senior level in conjunction with the Board and the Health & Safety Committee.
•Develop and implement the strategic direction and tactical planning across the group, working closely with relevant state agencies to engage their appreciation of the safety planning process and ongoing improvements.
•Set out annual audit plans and performance targets for continual improvement with the Board, Health & Safety Committee and Senior Managers.
•Ensure that appropriate structures are in place to implement the health and safety policies across all business units.
•Carry out regular site inspections and audits to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented, and report findings to the Health & Safety Committee and Location Managers.
•Lead and support initiatives to raise awareness and drive a positive health and safety culture.
•Identify new and on-going safety related training requirements, and ensure mandatory training is reviewed and delivered on time.
•Investigate, record and report accidents, incidents and near-misses promptly, and ensure any corrective actions are implemented without delay.
•Provide reports and statistics on incidents, accidents and near-misses to the Health & Safety Committee.
•Regularly review and update company Risk Assessments, Safe Operating Procedures, health & safety policies and Safety Statement for relevant locations. Communicate same to relevant personnel.
•Inform and support sites and facilities on the findings and corrective actions resulting from internal and external audits.
•Monitor legislative updates and ensure necessary changes are implemented particularly any developments that affect the company’s industry.
•Coordinate dealings with enforcement agencies and external bodies such as the HSA and Insurers with incidents and accident investigations.
•Provide support and guidance to Location Managers with training needs e.g. Safety Induction Training, Manual Handling, Forklift Training, Emergency Response Training, etc.
•Coordinate response to customer site safety documentation requirements.
•Work closely with HR and other Departments in relation to specific employee issues or accidents.
•Set an example of safe behaviour and advise Location Managers and employees of their safety duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications & Experience
•A minimum of 10 years’ experience working in a health & safety role is essential with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory/leadership/senior role.
•Third level qualification in Occupational Health & Safety is essential. Member of IOSH or equivalent.
•Previous experience in the Quarry Industry and a manufacturing organisation is desirable.
•Excellent knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and Quarry Regulations.
•Experience interacting with regulatory agencies.
Skills & Abilities
•Ability to lead and manage a team of H&S Managers, and motivate and work with internal/external service providers.
•Proven track record in the development and implementation of Health & Safety strategy across multisite environment.
•Proven ability to engage with onsite Health & Safety Managers and Location Managers to manage new initiatives and influence change.
•Ability to drive continuous improvement.
•Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment.
•Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
•Excellent written and oral communication skills.
•Full, clean Driver’s Licence.
